Backstage after the Preen show on Sunday, designer Justin Thornton gestured toward one of the collection’s highlights: Foil coats clipped to the shoulders of cellophane minidresses. “You can just wear the jacket or you can clip it to the dress — you don’t have to buy them together, but you can,” he said. “The fabric is a silk-mix silver foil with lurex.” Some models wore the loose, filmy garments the normal way, with their arms through the sleeve-holes, while others had them affixed like superhero capes. The collection’s silvery palette and patchwork prints were inspired by “the pastel colors and translucent reflections” of Miami architecture, Thornton added.
