Report: Porn Industry Shutdown Bad for Economy

Today’s jobs report showed that America’s labor-force-participation rate is at the lowest it’s been since 1978, but the disappointing “jobs added” numbers might be in part to blame on August’s porn shutdown. The Washington Post’s Wonkblog points out that the motion-picture industry lost a staggering 22,000, or 6 percent of its total jobs, during the month, which included a weeklong halt in porn production after performer Cameron Bay tested positive for HIV. September could be just as bad if the recent diagnosis of Bay’s boyfriend, Rod Daily, also a porn actor, prompts another shutdown. Who knows? It could be enough to get some economic votes for California’s proposed legislation requiring performers to wear condoms.
