It’s getting really hard to afford apartments in Beijing, thanks in part to so many wealthy men buying apartments for their mistresses. According to Aeon magazine, in an article focusing on the lives of China’s kept women, Chinese businessmen regularly purchase apartments for their “second woman,” often moving their lovers from their rural homes to more conveniently located shag pads in the city.
In 2010, there were an estimated 200,000 mistresses residing in Beijing apartments, reports Quartz. And as more men snap up prime real estate and fill it with “their women,” they’re unknowingly creating neighborhoods of young women living large in $400,000 apartments. Like gentrification, but way sexier! Just wait until Blue Bottle moves in.
