Karl Lagerfeld has a history of treating us to charming quips such as “No one wants to see curvy women on the catwalk.” Then there was that time he said Adele was “a little too fat.” This month Lagerfeld outdid himself when he offered insight into France’s social issues, mainly that the country’s healthcare is struggling because of “all the illnesses contracted by people who are too fat,” thereby elevating his comment status from “Oh, Karl!” to “Seriously, Karl?”
A French association for the rights of curvy women, “Belle Ronde, Sexy et Je M’assume” (translation: Beautiful, Curvy, Sexy, and Okay with it), has filed a complaint against Lagerfeld and wants to see him fined for his “defamatory and discriminatory comments” toward women. “We’re fed up. Many young girls are insecure and hearing such comments is terrible for them. Today, it’s him who insults us and tomorrow, who will it be?” Betty Aubriere, the group’s president, told Agence France-Presse.
While the women aren’t seeking any monetary compensation, all they want is the chance to “respond to and confront” Lagerfeld over the comments. We’d love to be a fly on the wall during that mediation session, but we’re guessing Lagerfeld will settle this out of court with his old “Adele Offensive” tactic and send the association a bunch of free Chanel bags.
