First Look: Anatomy by Malerie Marder [NSFW]

Beginning tomorrow, artist Malerie Marder’s latest photo series, Anatomy, will be on display at Leslie Tonkonow Artworks + Projects. Over the course of six years, the New York native who studied at both Bard College and Yale University spent time abroad in the Netherlands documenting the country’s prostitutes. What followed were raw portraits of women — nearly always nude — caught in different phases of their lives with all sentiments captured in their eyes. Marder has also released a monograph of her work published by Twin Palms to accompany the gallery. Click through the slideshow for a first look at the various women who appear trapped even in nothing but their very own skin — and, in a sense, the second-life or “momentary escape” that the photographs offer them and the viewers.
