Little-known nautical disaster the Titanic remains very popular among people looking to unload bundles of cash. A collector just spent $1.78 million on a violin that was reportedly played as a massive boat sank in the middle of nowhere on April 14, 1912. People thought that this waterlogged instrument would sell for up to $500,000 because … that’s already a ton of money.

The violin belonged to Wallace Hartley, a second-class passenger. He was played by Jonathan Evans-Jones in the low-budget Hollywood flop Titanic.
