This is “the greatest story ever told, the greatest music ever written” promises SPEARS: The Gospel According to Britney. SPEARS is an opera that details the life of The Savior and Lord and Son of God, Jesus H. Christ, through the pious and reverent songbook of Britney Jean Spears.
Written and performed by students at Columbia this spring, SPEARS is looking to move this musical to Broadway, to finally bring Britney and Jesus to the masses. It’s a musical that:
… tugs at the heartstrings of America’s lost twenty-somethings, calling on familiar hits such as ‘Stronger,’ ‘One More Time,’ and ‘Crazy,’ to describe the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“Piece of Me” — the story of transubstantiation.”3” — a song many believe to be about a threesome, could actually be about the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Crossroads — coping with the temptation of the Devil. “Til the World Ends” — a musical number about the rapture. This lady’s work is absolutely ripe for a religious reading, isn’t it?
