Anna Wintour’s Big Surprise at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards

Fresh talent dominated last night’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards (Public School’s Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne won the $300,000 pot), but the OGs had their moments, too. Tom Ford gave a long keynote address, regaling the crowd with stories of going white-water rafting with Julianne Moore for his 50th birthday (what we would pay to see video of that), and about that time he met Anna Wintour on a nude beach in St. Barts in the nineties (he was nude, and she was clothed).

Afterwards, Baz Luhrmann – who skipped out of the Glamour Women of the Year Awards uptown halfway through the evening to make it (his wife, Catherine Martin, was being honored)  — sauntered up to the podium to announce a surprise video tribute to Anna Wintour, in honor of her 25 years at Vogue.  AW 25, as it was called, featured some of the industry’s most well-known faces – Mario Testino, Oscar de la Renta, Grace Coddington, and Hamish Bowles among them – along with esteemed members of the larger Wintour Super PAC (Hillary Clinton and Harvey Weinstein), all sitting on a red arm chair, against a black background, professing their love and admiration for Wintour. Afterwards, AW – who seemed genuinely shocked – came to the podium. “Bee, this has your fingerprints all over it, and you’re in major trouble when you get home,” she laughed to her daughter. Indeed, the video was the work of young Shaffer, Wintour’s daughter, and isn’t, we’re told, for public release. Click through to see the attendees and honorees in our slideshow.
