Plan B, the morning-after pill reproductive groups and the FDA fought to make available over-the-counter this year, might not be effective for many American women. The European manufacturer of emergency contraceptive Norlevo is changing its packaging information to warn women the drug is completely ineffective for women who weigh more than 176 pounds, and begins to lose effectiveness in women who weigh more than 165 pounds, Mother Jones reports. Norlevo has a dosage and chemical makeup “identical” to some of the most popular morning-after pills sold over-the-counter in the U.S., including Plan B One-Step, putting the average American woman, who is 166 pounds, at serious risk of wasting $50.
