Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing’s dreams have come true. His fantasy spokeswoman, Rihanna, now fronts his brand’s spring 2014 ad campaign. Rousteing, who calls Rihanna “an icon,” told WWD: “When the woman that inspires you wears your creations, your vision feels complete.” It’s a mutual-admiration society, as Rihanna often sports the French brand’s edgy creations on the red carpet, and proudly unfurled images from the campaign on her Instagram account this morning.
“In front of the camera, she makes you feel like she is the only girl in the world,” Rousteing continues, quoting her single like the total fangirl he is. In one image in the Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin—shot campaign, which will break in January, Rihanna stares deep into our eyes while wearing a denim off-the-shoulder shirt embroidered with gold braids, on top of high-waisted jeans. She may not make me feel like the only girl in the world, but she’s definitely the only girl in the world who can pull off that look.
