Sophia Webster has taken to Instagram to call out Nasty Gal’s SRSLY WTF Bag, which she claims is a blatant copy of her signature speech-bubble clutch: “Nice Try @NastyGal #COPYCAT #SpeechBubbleClutch #SWHQ,” she posted, with a picture of Nasty Gal’s bag — which, though faux-leather, is eerily similar to Webster’s collection of embroidered-text-covered white clutches. And, at $48, it’s also significantly cheaper than one of Webster’s bags, which retail for $340. Of course, none of this is particularly surprising — it isn’t even the first time Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso has been accused of copyright infringement via Instagram. Earlier this year, Amoruso engaged in a catty Insta-war with Etsy seller Saylor Rose after accusations of ripping off her designs for the site’s Cali Girl Bracelet. At the time, Nasty Gal agreed to pull its design from the site — a promise it doesn’t appear to have followed through with — but not without putting up a stink: “Forgive us for never having heard of you,” Amoruso retorted, adding: “Congrats, you’ve been knocked off. It’s a rite of passage.” Nasty Gal has yet to respond to Webster, but we’re looking forward to hearing her defense.
