Just because Congress can’t pass a Paycheck Fairness Act doesn’t mean employers can’t take fixing the wage gap into their own hands. Nancy Gibbs — the first woman to hold the top spot on Time’s masthead in the magazine’s 90-year-history — is doing it. “One of the first things she did after being named managing editor was to assess the salaries of women within the organization and make sure those salaries were comparable with what men of equal stature were making,” Capital New York’s Joe Pompeo reports. Under the 50-year-old Equal Pay Act, you can still get fired just for talking about your salary with other employees.
