France Bans Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears From Daytime TV

The AP reports that a broadcast watchdog group in France called the CSA has declared Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears unsuitable for daytime television. The CSA said the “Work Bitch,” by Spears — which shouts out partying in France — and Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” — which shouts out partying in a construction site — shouldn’t be played before 10 p.m. Cyrus’s music video just has too much sexy going on, while Spears’s semi-bondage attire evokes, according to the CSA, “a sadomachisitic universe.”

Meanwhile, Scarlett Johansson is not doing Franco-American celebrity diplomacy any favors. She’s told David Letterman that people in France are very  rude to her, so she is rude back to them, and she cares not at all. Body-checking, stare-downs, and public complaints are just her declarations of sovereignty.

It would appear France is making war on our pop culture. The country is all up in talks to ban child beauty pageants (not our finest export, to be sure); the Kimye Versailles wedding was just a rumor. Take your television realité and your portmanteau celebrités back from whence they came, France cries. We gave you berets and Gauloises, and this is what you offer in return? Absolument, non. Remove them at your earliest convenience.
