Olympians are wonderful for their discipline, dedication, and toned bodies, but sometimes their obsessive dedication to sports can be a real bore. This is not the case for Hubertus von Hohenlohe, the driving force behind Mexico’s slalom team, who also happens to be a German prince. Call him a Renaissance man: At 55, he’s the second-oldest winter Olympian in history, though judging by his résumé, competing in the Olympics — which he’s done six times since 1986 — is more of a hobby. He’s also a photographer (his 2005 gallery show “It’s Me!” featured a variety of photographs of himself), is friends with Karl Lagerfeld, and is a pop star who has released eight albums under the names Royal Disaster and Andy Himalaya (really). He currently lives and trains in Austria, but will display his loyalty to Mexico by competing in a Mariachi-themed ski outfit. As you count down the days to the opening ceremony in Sochi, enjoy this video of him singing an original single, “Higher Than Mars,” while floating in a pool.
