Mark Ruffalo has been a known abortion rights advocate for about a year. But now he’s on tape — just in time for the 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade —explaining how hearing about his mother’s illegal abortion compelled him to speak up about the issue as state legislatures roll back abortion access nationwide. Not only is abortion so heavily restricted it is effectively illegal in many parts of the country, the New York Times reports that Republicans are doubling down on abortion in the midterm elections, with the hopes of turning out the conservative base while linking abortion rights to the already unpopular Obamacare (“taxpayer funded abortion”). All of which is a lot trickier to shut down than a Todd Akin sound bite.
