Fug Girls: Must Be Nice to Be a Guy During Fashion Week

It must be nice to be a guy during the February Fashion Week, and the Richard Chai show Thursday morning was a good example of why. While Leigh Lezark posed for photographers in a studiously styled ensemble of flared white pants and a sleeveless belly tee, looking for all the world like she was about to get on a boat in Capri even though it’s twenty degrees outside, the male attendees all basically looked like they’d rolled out of bed half an hour before and limited their grooming regimen to the contemplation — and occasional rejection — of hair gel. It’s not necessarily a bad thing; it just makes us yearn for that extra hour of sleep — and Lezark, perhaps, for warmer abs.

Joe Jonas and his ladyfriend, Blanda Eggenschwiler, perched on the end of the front row, her in peep-toe pumps and a skirt and bare legs (brr), and him in a winter jacket and jeans and his facial scruff. He sat next to Zachary Quinto, who accessorized his hipster-comfy duds with boots and a skull cap, and then actor Bryan Greenberg, who was wearing big sneakers and looking like his alarm might have gone off about five minutes before showtime. All of which was in stark contrast to the plaid suit, colorful socks, and shiny brogues of Arrow actor Colton Haynes, who must have been glad he decided to carry the menswear torch when he saw that he had been seated beside the always-natty Hamish Bowles.

A couple of the guys chatted a little, but sadly, nary a theoretical bromance was born (too sleepy?). But they were united in one thing: Every single one of them tapped his toes — and in Joe Jonas’s case, air-drummed — along to the Bangles’ “Hazy Shade of Winter.” (Well, except for Hamish. But he was surely air-drumming on the inside, where it counts.) Ergo, the Bangles: better than coffee. You heard it here first.
