To say the fashion crowd brought their best shoes this month is something of an understatement. All over the streets of New York, London, Milan, and Paris, shoes resembled works of art and architecture — we saw a pair of Mondrian-inspired booties, Ionic column sandals, and even a pair of Dolce & Gabbana Mary Janes reminiscent of Byzantine mosaics.
And, somewhat less artistically, socks were everywhere too: Anna Dello Russo’s Chanel pumps came with a pair of built-in white athletic tube socks, while Leila Yavari’s frilly baby-dolls contrasted her yellow heels. And there were, as usual, several styles fresh off the runway: Inga Kozel wore the now infamous Chanel couture sneakers, while Leigh Lezark went for jelly Fendis. But ultimately, comfort dominated over height, with studded Birkenstocks, glittery slippers, and bright sneakers showing up in droves.
