GoldieBlox, a girl-focused science-toy company, has settled their lawsuit with the Beastie Boys over the use of the song “Girls” in their commercial. Though GoldieBlox claims their work was a parody, the band’s policy is never to allow any of their songs to be used in commercials.
The settlement will require GoldieBlox to donate a portion of their revenue to science-education charities aimed at involving young women (the Beastie Boys will select the charities). They are also required to issue a public apology, which is sure to note that boys are cool and the best, and have official and exclusive rights to the good jungle gym during recess.
