This year’s Woolmark Prize nominees were announced today, and five New York–based labels got the nod: Jonathan Simkhai, Marcia Patmos of M. Patmos, Misha Nonoo of Nonoo, Rosie Assoulin (whose look is shown at top left), and WHIT’s Whitney Pozgay. (Last year’s winner in the American category was Joseph Altuzarra.) A menswear category was added this year, with Todd Snyder, Public School, a. a. of antonio azzuolo, Mark McNairy New Amsterdam, Ovadia & Sons, and Timo Weiland making up the roster of American nominees (the men’s winner will be announced in January).
The womenswear nominees will be winnowed down to one U.S. regional winner in July, and then the victor will proceed to the international competition in Beijing, to be held in March 2015. Just like the Hunger Games of fashion.
