Yesterday, Marc by Marc Jacobs announced it would scout the face of its fall 2014 campaign on social media and accept submissions via the hashtag #CastMeMarc. Unsurprisingly, enterprising young upstarts with artistic selfies began to immediately flood the zone. Considering Marc Jacobs’s marketing track record — from Victoria Beckham’s dangling legs in a shopping bag to controversial brand ambassadors Miley Cyrus and 64-year-old Jessica Lange — the mining-social-media tactic comes as no surprise. Perhaps it’s yet another sign that newly appointed creative directors Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley are taking pains to keep the brand cool.
