17 Interesting, Unexpected Ways to Wear Pearls

By Veronica Misako Gledhill

No longer just associated with grandmothers or Jackie O., pearls have become a focus for several cool jewelry-designers this spring. Brands like Vita Fede feature rings and cuffs bookended with pearls, while Fallon sells chunky stacks of pearls set in gold and Givenchy offers mother-of-pearl cones, sharpened to a point. We sifted through spring’s offerings to find the coolest new pearl pieces (in minimal and asymmetric designs) that go against the grain of your usual single-strand necklace. Whether real or imitation, pearls can be worn in so many ways. Click through our slideshow to see 17 examples of this trend.

Wear it as a bracelet or as an unusual upper-armband on sleeveless nights this summer.
With the subtle sheen of mother-of-pearl, there's no need for sparkle.
Not into jewelry? Try these pearlized sunglasses instead.
Peeking out from behind the ear are gold spikes to toughen up the serene color of these pearls.
Not your grandmother's necklace, this accessory is perfect for wearing with just a tee or shift dress this spring.
Like a knuckle-duster but prettier, this double-ring set in a swirl pattern is the perfect thing to add your ring arrangement.
Whether they're rings or actually earrings, open rings like these double-pearl pieces are beloved by us.
There's a ferocity to Givenchy's sharpened magnetic earrings that's fun to mix into an otherwise buttoned-up look.
Odd but not too odd, we like how these huge pearl strands are threaded and knotted with a simple rope.
A stack of pearls set in gold might seem like enough — but it's the minimal setting and proportions that got our attention.
Tracing the curve along the ear, these comma-shaped cuff earrings are so simple, even with their gold and crystal settings.
Want to keep it somewhat classic? Go for this necklace, which caught our eye as the best modern take on the classic pearl strand.
Can't decide what kind of pearl to go with? Try a little bit of both: an ear cuff in addition to studs.
This uniquely shaped single earring is cantilevered with a larger pearl that hangs below the earlobe.
Go eclectic with this decadent multitiered necklace, adorned with asymmetric strands of pearls.
Go big with a fun cluster of pearls like this choker.
Perfect if you're looking for something simple and luxurious to play up an odd pearcing.
