Queen Elizabeth II posed for another British legend, photographer David Bailey, for two portraits in the June/July issue of Harper’s Bazaar. In the portrait, taken just before her 88th birthday, Her Royal Highness wears a necklace and earrings given to her by her father, King George, on her wedding day — not to mention a pretty winning smile. The portraits were taken as part of Britain’s GREAT campaign to promote tourism. In an accompanying essay, the novelist Fay Weldon writes, “Shakespeare claimed that there was ‘no art to find the mind’s construction in the face.’ But he lived in a time when there was no camera — and no David Bailey behind it.” The issue is on stands May 27.
