Kentucky Derby Street Style: Giant Hats, Pearls, and Matching Everything
At this year’s Kentucky Derby, the expected favorite, California Chrome, surpassed his competitors and very expectedly won the race. But the scene on the sidelines — a vibrant, colorful parade of sundress-wearing, big-hat enthusiasts — was anything but formulaic. People like actress Mera Kathryn Corlett matched her hat to her nails to her Great Gatsby–shaped clutch, while sales manager Kalie Thorpe went head-to-toe peach and a series of very dandy gentlemen coordinated their bow ties and pocket squares. (Johnny Weir, meanwhile, decided to actually wear the horse atop his head.) Click through our slideshow to see highlights from the Kentucky Derby’s street style.
