The CFDA Has Big Plans to Streamline the Fashion Calendar

In May, nonagenarian Fashion Calendar proprietor Ruth Finley said she had no plans to retire: “Too young.” Well, Finley isn’t going anywhere, but the CFDA has announced that it’s acquired the calendar, retaining Finley as a consultant and adviser. While Finley, who has run the calendar for 65 years, relied on some highly analog methods (designers had to call her on the phone to arrange placement, for instance) the plan is to streamline the process with a digital platform, as well as to implement a calendar for the ever-expanding juggernaut that is the pre-collections (pre-fall and resort). In a press release, Steven Kolb, the organization’s CEO, said, “The Fashion Calendar is a vital function of the American Fashion Industry, and one that the CFDA will  work hard to improve and expand.” Look, anything that results in fashion weeks being more organized is something we can get behind.
