At Margiela, They Sewed Money Into Clothes

Maison Martin Margiela can always be counted upon for some unusual happenings: Previous outings have involved those crystal Kanye masks and faux tattoos. At today’s couture show, the offerings included a gown made, in typical artisanal fashion, from a patchworked-together Paul Poiret coat. The house also made a winking reference to couture’s costliness by sewing francs on the skirts of gowns. Unfortunately, since France adopted the euro in 2005, they won’t be of much use to you.
