LiveScience reports that an archaeology team has discovered the remains of an ancient Egyptian woman (technically not a mummy, as she was not mummified) with hair extensions. Found as part of the Amarna Project, an archaeological dig exploring the short-lived capital city, the fancy lady has “a very complex coiffure with approximately 70 extensions fastened in different layers and heights on the head.” Just imagine the secrets that are in that hair. LiveScience also has additional photographs showing other hairstyles perserved on ancient Egyptian skulls, which include curling the hair around the ears and braids. This just goes to show you that, true to trends, everything old (even 3,300 years old) becomes new again.
