“Annoyingly Brazilian” is how makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury describes the perfectly bronzed physiques of her clients and friends, such as Gisele Bündchen and Izabel Goulart. Yet at the launch of her eponymous makeup line, Tilbury was insistent that her Supermodel Body Shimmer would give even the palest of people an annoyingly Brazilian tan. “Just slather it all over your body!” she exclaimed, gesticulating wildly. The other beauty editors and I were doubtful, as we are a group of people who come back from tropical vacations less tan than when we left. We don’t dabble in being tan, and when we do, we’re careful. But we tentatively rolled the tube of Supermodel Body Shimmer up and down our arms, using the roller-ball applicator. “I want to bathe in this,” one editor said. The effect was immediate: a bronze tan that rolled down the center of a limb like a highlighter. It glowed, without being sparkly. It was shimmery, not porny. Unlike other body lotions I’ve tried, it was completely non-sticky and had a mildly pleasant scent. Looking annoyingly Brazilian has never been so pleasantly easy.
