This Sunday, over 50,000 runners will battle mind games, malfunctioning Spotify playlists, and way too early wake-up calls to run the 26.2 miles of the New York City Marathon. There are a lot of things that will happen to a body when it’s being dragged such a distance in sweaty Lycra. Nipples bleed, lips chap, and thighs chafe.

Whether or not you’re a die-hard marathoner or an occasional outdoor runner, or are just planning a sprint to your local bodega for a Chipwich, click through our slideshow for 14 products that try to keep everything running smoothly on a cold-weather run.

Bodyglide Simple, easy, and non-greasy, this balm comes in an easy stick form you can easily swipe all over your body to prevent chafing. It doesn’t contain petroleum or lanolin, and it’s the official skin lubricant of the USA Triathlon. Be careful not to buy Astroglide, which is a lubricant for an entirely different sort of occasion. Homeoplasmine In France, mothers use this to treat cracked nipples. Backstage at fashion shows, makeup artists use this to soothe cracked lips. Runners like using this for both of the same reasons. Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour Cream Protectant Legend has it that Elizabeth Arden used this to soothe the legs of her thoroughbred horses after races. You can use this apricot-colored balm, which has a slight medicine-y smell, to do the same thing. It acts as an occlusive moisturizer, sealing in moisture, as the name indicates, for up to eight hours. Photo: Courtesy of Elizabeth Arden

Vaseline Rachael Wang, fashion market director at Style.com, who ran the marathon last year, tells the Cut that runners should not be afraid of strangers bearing free Vaseline. “They hand out globs of it during the [marathon] on wooden tongue depressors to slab it on. Don't be afraid to use the Vaseline they hand out at service stations during the race for lips, hands, and chafing.” Photo: Courtesy of Vaseline

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Spray Lotion The average marathon time is about four hours (4:16 to be exact). According to dermatologists, UV protection is valid only about two to three hours from when it's first applied. This means you need to apply during the race at least once. This sunscreen goes on silkily but doesn't run or drip in milky rivulets down your face. Pat, don't rub, the sunscreen in. Photo: Courtesy of Anthelios

Aquaphor A supremely gentle balm with a non-irritating smell that’s perfect for those with very gentle skin. A new travel size makes it easy to tote while you're on a run. Dr. Teal's Espom Salt Foot Soak After running 26.2 miles, your brain and heart may feel the joy of your runner’s high but your aching feet and muscles will be barking from pain. Seasoned runners like Wang suggest soaking your feet in Epsom salts post-race. “I jumped into an Epsom-salt bath and soaked," she says. "This is a miracle worker; don't skip it. You can buy a bag at any drugstore. I add a bit of coconut oil for moisturizing and a couple drops of lavender oil to de-stress." Photo: Courtesy of Dr. Teal’s

Tom Ford Ultra Length Mascara Makeup is definitely unusual for most runners, but some don’t mind looking a little camera-ready for the finish line. Nikki Ogunnaike, style editor for Glamour.com, who will be running the marathon this weekend, likes this Tom Ford mascara. She explains, "When I sweat and then rub at my forehead or my eyes, my mascara never seems to run." Photo: Courtesy of Tom Ford

SW Basics Vegan Lip Balm Flight There are just four ingredients in each of SW Basics' vegan lip balms, which are moisturizing without being greasy. A flight of the lip balms comes in a tin, which has citrus, cinnamon, cocoa, and peppermint flavors. The scents are prettily aromatic without being in your face. Wang carried this with her the day of her marathon. Photo: Courtesy of S.W. Basics

Eyeko Sports Mascara Everyone looks better with longer, fuller lashes, and this mascara won’t give you raccoon eyes or run down your face to obscure the finish line. Eyeko founder Nina Leykind even tested this during Bikram yoga to make sure that it was truly sweatproof, no matter the humidtiy or heat. Photo: Courtesy of Eyeko

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Finally, it's important to also keep your lips hydrated and flake-free so you don't get chalky runner's mouth. Ogunnaike, a longtime runner and racer, likes this version from Fresh. "I just started wearing the Sugar Tulip lip treatment because it's pretty light, but provides enough coverage and moisture, and has a bit of color. It's not greasy, which I love."
