Julia Roberts Is the Newest Face of Givenchy

Riccardo Tisci, man of many muses, has just found his next one. He announced via Instagram late last night that Julia Roberts is the face of Givenchy’s spring 2015 campaign. (She joins a muse roster that includes Erykah Badu, Kendall Jenner, and Lea T.) In an interview with Yahoo Style, Tisci explains why he selected Roberts: “For me, Julia is many things. She has this strength as an actress, but she’s also this beautiful American woman. She’s a big star, but she’s not a paparazzi or a blog monster. It’s going to be my tenth year at Givenchy in March, so I wanted to represent the woman who is more mature, beautiful, talented, but also unpretentious.”

Roberts, on the other hand, can’t quite believe her new “supermodel status.” She tells Yahoo, “My sister and I were actually just on the phone, and we were laughing so hard. She goes, ‘How are you suddenly turned into a supermodel? You’re almost 50.’ It’s funny.”

Don’t doubt your modeling abilities, Julia: It turns out you’re very good at faces. Just look at the range between her serious, stoic Givenchy campaign face and her OMGHAPPYBUYSTUFF mug on the cover of September’s InStyle (which WWD reports was the second-highest selling September cover of 2014).

Plus, we all know Roberts is just a muse placeholder until North West is old enough to anchor a major fashion campaign.
