Armani Hosts Glam ’80s-Style Premiere Party for A Most Violent Year

A bitterly cold Sunday evening proved a prime setting for the New York City premiere of A Most Violent Year. Hosted by Armani, the crowd welcomed director J.C. Chandor and the film’s lead actors, Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain, at Florence Gould Hall. Chastain stood out in a long, red wrap-style gown custom-designed by Giorgio Armani and inspired by the wardrobe of her character, Anna Morales (Armani made all of Chastain’s costumes for the film). Giorgio Armani has a solid track record when it comes to movie costume design. Known for outfitting Richard Gere in slick tailored suits for American Gigolo, and working with Martin Scorsese for Leonardo DiCaprio’s character for The Wolf of Wall Street, he has now lent his hand to cinematic womenswear.

After the viewing, the guests walked a few streets over to Armani/Ristorante, where Zosia Mamet, Zachary Quinto, and model Lindsay Ellingson rubbed shoulders with the likes of Ang Lee, Dan Stevens, Bird’s Jen Mankins, and stylist Mel Ottenberg. The evening had a throwback, glam vibe, with ‘80s-era hits playing in the dark glow of green and purple lights. As a bonus, atop the modernist swirling ivory staircase, all of Chastain’s looks from the film were on display. Guests could see the white wrap coat she wears throughout the film, with its graphic wide belt, or the strapless gown worn with an encrusted beaded jacket.

A Most Violent Year opens December 31.
