The Sexiest Dresses of All Time Marilyn Monroe's ‘Happy Birthday’ Dress

Marilyn Monroe's ‘Happy Birthday’ Dress

On May 19, 1962, Marilyn Monroe breathily and provocatively sang, “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden, wearing an outfit as racy and scandalous as her performance. She took the stage in a white fur coat that she shrugged off to reveal a nude, unlined, open-back, sheer dress by Jean Louis that glimmered with sequins and beading. The evening sheath was allegedly so tight that Monroe was sewn into it (while wearing nothing underneath). The dress sold for $1.27 million in 2007.
