Selfridges Flips the Young-Designer Script

If there’s anything this week has taught us, it’s that the Silent Generation is the new millennial when it comes to fashion, with Joan Didion and Joni Mitchell gracing high-fashion ads. Dazed reports that, in keeping with this motif, London department store Selfridges, which has previously featured talents like Simone Rocha  as part of its Bright Young Things series, is introducing Bright Old Things, which will spotlight designers of a certain age. Whether it’s retail vet turned designer Nick Wooster or former fashion editor, boutique owner, and Bib and Mary Quant alum Molly Parkin, who’s now a painter, the candidates all have one thing in common: advanced years. Wooster says, “My advice to young people — wait until it’s your turn. Just kidding, sorta.”
