This Valentine’s day, Americans will demonstrate their feelings via their preferred emotional display: exchanging money for gifts and exchanging these gifts for love. The National Retail Foundation estimates that adults will spend $18.9 billion on flowers, celebratory meals, chocolates, and jewelry. After the NRF surveyed 6,357 adults about their upcoming plans, they found that women are more likely to spend money on Valentine’s cards, and, on average, men will spend $7 lavishing their pets with Valentine’s treats. Who are you whimsical weirdos and what do you buy for your pets and do your pets understand the nature of this holiday? Report back, please.
