Now that fashion month is behind us, we can take a deeper dive and reexamine the runways in New York, London, Milan, and Paris in search of trends we can expect to see in magazines and on the streets next fall. The forecast: The ‘70s may have been the inspirational decade of spring, but the ‘80s will be having a moment next season. Fabrics will grow richer in texture (think brocades and velvet) and super-sparkly (Lurex and sequins for days), and you may even want to experiment with season-atypical pastels. And should you feel like you cannot keep up with the times, Victorian fashion is here for you. Click ahead for a primer on the 13 trends you can expect to see next season.

Boss Tweeds Perhaps the most popular fabric this season, tweed (in checks and herringbone) was everywhere this season. It came in the form of coats, pants, and little layered tops, appearing at Prada, Haider Ackermann, Miu Miu, and, of course, Chanel. Photo: Imaxtree

Velvet Another popular fabric was smooth, soft, and seasonally appropriate velvet. It came in the form of masculine suits and sexy corsetry and in rich hues. It showed up at Givenchy, Sonia Rykiel, and Valentino, to name a few. Photo: Imaxtree

Black-and-White Geometry Black-and-white geometrics came in the form of voluminous shapes as well as linear designs. A relatively easy color combination to pull off, the fun came in the silhouettes: There were honeycomb forms at Junya Watanabe and gridlike shapes at Balenciaga. Photo: Imaxtree

'80s Babes While the '70s dominated spring, the '80s made a comeback this season, which will surely land a ton of editorials. From power shoulders at Saint Laurent, to J.W. Anderson's slouchy leather boots (even prissy Laura Ashley–like blouses at Miu Miu), the runways were totally '80s. Photo: Imaxtree

Heavy Upholstery Minimalists take note: Rich upholstered fabrics were big for the season, making a strong case for opulence. Beautiful brocades and damask were wonderfully layered, as if you were on a journey wearing all of your beloved clothing all at once. (It was so strong at Dries Van Noten, we almost wanted to furnish our homes with his lineup.) Photo: Imaxtree

A surprising palette of baby pinks, lavenders, and sky blues were all over the place this season — and especially noticeable at Prada. The softness continued onward through Paris at Loewe and Saint Laurent. It will be interesting to see if this trend hits the street, and how it plays with all the jewel tones.  Photo: Imaxtree

Whether they involved mixed media or leather on leather, these looks had a highly designed and cheerful homemade spirit. Photo: Imaxtree
