Pharrell Williams is many things. A warrior against the 24-hour day. A designer of confusing perfumes in pretty bottles. One hundred percent not a vampire. But whether or not he’s a style icon is up for debate. After all, we’re talking about someone who has made public his love of SpongeBob SquarePants onesies and Uggs, not to mention That Hat. The CFDA is doubling down on the Definitely a Style Icon opinion, though, because it just announced via tweet that it will award him the Style Icon prize at the annual CFDA Awards ceremony in June. Pharrell will join Lifetime Achievement Award winner Betsey Johnson and a host of talented nominees. If anyone can top Rihanna’s ensemble from last year’s ceremony for sheer outrageousness, it might just be America’s No. 1 proponent of shorts as eveningwear.
