Rolling Stone announced yesterday that it will be publishing an external review of the magazine’s controversial report on an alleged gang rape at the University of Virginia, conducted by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. It will appear early next month.

Rolling Stone enlisted J-school dean Steve Coll to evaluate “the editorial process the led to the publication of the story” in December, following the magazine’s apology for holes in the reporting of the piece, including failing to contact the alleged rapists. In an email to CNN yesterday, Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner said he expects to receive the report in two weeks, and that the magazine will be “publishing shortly thereafter in full.”
