A Look Inside Iceland’s Emerging Fashion Scene
Last month marked the sixth annual Reykjavik Fashion Festival, which, with a grand total of six designers showing their collections, is a distinct change of pace from the usual New York-London-Milan-Paris circuit. The intimate affair, held at the Harpa — the city’s newfangled concert hall, designed by Danish architect Henning Larsen — showcased Iceland’s most promising new designers: Jör, Sigga Maija, Magnea, Another Creation, Scintilla, and Eyland. Local photographer Saga Sig was on hand to capture the scene backstage, from nylon-stocking-covered faces (à la Hood by Air) at Another Creation, to dramatic Roman-numeral face paint and double-layer wigs at Jör.
