Kentucky Derby Street Style: Peacock Plumage and Bow Ties

This year’s Kentucky Derby turned out to be an exhilaratingly close race, with the favorite, legendary trainer Bob Baffert’s American Pharoah, clinching the win in the final moments. As always, there was a lot to see on the sidelines, too. Racegoers turned out in brightly colored sundresses and dapper suit jackets, accessorizing with novelty bow ties and mesh-veiled fascinators. Former figure skater turned hat commentator Johnny Weir set the standard for headpiece decadence, opting to wear a decorative Mohawk made of red roses, which he paired with shiny gold pajamas. Others chose sunhats full of multicolor plumage, florescent peacock feathers, and bouquets of silk flowers. Click through the slideshow for a look at this year’s flashy Derby Day styles, shot by Andrew Kung and Bethaney Martin.
