After a new study suggested that millennials have fewer sex partners and a survey found that nearly a quarter of Harvard students never had sex in college, “Sex Lives” hosts Allison P. Davis, Maureen O’Connor, and David Wallace-Wells wonder: What’s up with kids today? Is the millennial generation so evolved that meaningless college hookups no longer interest them? Or is it possible that, despite all of our modern technology, our parents (and grandparents) were just better at getting laid?
If that’s the case, it might explain why Dr. Ruth continues to fascinate even if her once-progressive advice has become somewhat retrograde in today’s sexual climate. The second half of the episode follows up with a conversation between Maureen and Dr. Ruth about her new memoir, her own sexual history, and what she meant by those incendiary comments about campus rape and consent.
