People Wore a Lot of Comme des Garçons to the Tiffany Dinner Last Night
“There is one word we never say here at Tiffany,” began Frédéric Cumenal, CEO of Tiffany, at last night’s dinner at Dover Street Market in New York City. “Do you know what that word is?” The intimate audience of fashion notables assembled before him laughed and sipped Champagne. “Discontinued.”
We’d come for an evening celebrating the Out of Retirement Collection, for which creative director Francesca Amfitheatrof had looked into the Tiffany archives and created a special gift collection — the first collaboration of this nature in the company’s history. Amfitheatrof, in an imperfect triple French-braid, black-and-white dress, and bright-red lips, did a wonderful job of selling the concept behind the jewelry, simply by wearing it. With giant sculptural gold rings on each hand and a sexy, rounded pair of bangles on her wrist, she was easily the chicest woman in the room.
Speaking of pairs, there were more than a few stylish matched sets, including: red-haired Vogue editors Grace Coddington and Lynn Yaeger, Michelle Elie and Michelle Harper (both decked out in Comme des Garçons), Inez and Vinoodh, Misha Nonoo and Alexander Gilkes, and more.
