The Cut Staff’s Hyperspecific Luxury Gift Guide

There are two common ways to organize gift guides. You can do it by category — tech gifts, steals under $50, last-minute presents you can get with two-day shipping from Amazon — or by giftee, e.g., what to buy the men in your life. But since the best gifts are personal, the Cut would like to propose a third way: a hyperspecific list tailored to the people we know, in hopes that you’ll recognize your own friends and loved ones in their very idiosyncratic holiday requests. In the slideshow below, we’ve laid out gifts for everyone from the Elliott Smith Fan Who Always Wears Black to the Woman Who Gives Weed for Secret Santa. Click through to see our picks, or check out our Very Personal Beauty Gift Guide for a more beauty-centric selection.

For the Woman We Call Mother of Light  Because Ashley Weatherford is our associate beauty editor, she has amazing skin, and she likes to wear things that complement it. She'll appreciate this blush fuzzy coat and over-the-top Dolce & Gabbana headphones that are fit for a queen.

We're pretty sure she will buy this Catbird necklace instantly, and adore these velvet flats with pearl details.

For the Riot Girl Who Appreciates the Finer Things  Writer Dayna Evans knows what she likes and can easily point out things she could use in her closet. Since she loves a good hoop, we'd upgrade her usual pair to these flashy diamond ones from John Hardy and give her a good pair of black jeans she can wear all the time.

For the Girl Who Is Transitioning Into Becoming a Grown-Up Sartorially  Associate fashion editor Lindsay Peoples just turned 25, so she's looking to stop buying so much fast fashion and start investing in pieces. We'd buy her this Hermès mini clutch and a Fendi mohair coat that she could wear for years to come.

For the Girl With an Abiding Love for Turtlenecks There can never be enough Steven Alan in senior editor Molly Fischer's wardobe. She'll love this modern but work-appropriate schoolgirl skirt from A.P.C. and an APiece Apart blouse to change things up.

For the Woman Who Still Won't Shut Up About Saint Laurent  You know those people who love every thing Saint Laurent does, even if it looks kind of crazy? That's our editorial director Stella Bugbee. We're 100 percent sure she'd like this printed Saint Laurent blouse. Let's add a Gucci scarf to wrap herself in for good measure.

For the Elliott Smith Fan Who Always Wears Black The Cut's editorial assistant Stephanie Eckardt likes to keep things simple and buy things that mix and match effortlessly. She'll like this turtleneck from Aritzia paired with Proenza Schouler's new leather tote bag.

For the Woman Who Is Obsessed With Pandas and Poofy Things  Kathleen Hou, the Cut's senior beauty editor, is happy to share her love of Kawaii and cutesy things. (Her candy, not so much.) We'd still gift her this cozy Max Mara wrap coat and a fun Eugenia Kim pom hat for the winter.

For the Underground Broadway Lover Fashion news editor Véronique Hyland can tell you just about anything you want to know about musicals and is even starring in a play of her own. She'll immediately love these fun pom shoes to wear to events, and a fun Art Deco clutch from Valentino.

For the Woman Who Plans Her Wardobe Better Than Anyone We Know Style director Rebecca Ramsey loves a good hero piece that she can pair with all-black outfits, so she'll love these stunners that will brighten up any outfit. We have a feeling she's going to treat herself to these striped Miu Miu flats, or a pair of Prada drop earrings.

For the Woman Who Gives Weed for Secret Santa  Senior writer Allison Davis is known for her love of caftans and weed around the office, so we're going to give her just what she wants: a humorous lighter and velvet caftan to wear over roomy dresses or jeans on the weekends.

For the Girl Who's Always Smiling  Catie L'Heureux, the Cut's assistant editor, is full of cheer year-round, and so her is wardobe. We're giving her a bright-purple peacoat from J.Crew and the everyday bag she's been wanting from Kate Spade.

For the Stylish and Practical Mom As senior editor, Izzy Grinspan has her hands full at work and at home with a toddler, so she's asked for things that will work for her lifestyle no matter the occassion. She'll like this navy Sonia Rykiel coat that's a nice alternative to her parka, and this Capwell necklace to spice up sweaters.

To copy his style, she'll need a floral bomber like this one from Jonathan Saunders and these White Company suede booties.

For the Girl Who Likes the Blackest of Black Available  Producer Leah Rodriguez loves things on the dark side, and we can't imagine her without her signature dark sultry lip. We would buy her this studded Alexander Wang pouch and classic Ray-Ban sunglasses to add to her wardrobe, plus some white Pumas to shake things up.

She'll appreciate a bigger leather bag to lug her stuff from the gym and work, and black ankle boots to tuck into jeans.
