Inside Louis Vuitton’s New Exhibit in Paris
Louis Vuitton has always been connected to travel: Its founder, the original Louis, first got to Paris by walking 280 miles from his home in the mountains of France on his own two feet. In 1854, he opened a shop of luxury trunks there that, in the years following, would go from specializing in packing away fashion to becoming a major fashion house itself.
That story is traced in “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” (Fly, Sail, Travel), a new exhibition filled with plenty of LV-stamped archives and even a rare painting by Gustave Courbet. Organized by noted curator Olivier Saillard, it opened in Paris on Friday, and is up at the Grand Palais until February.
