Before Annebet Duvall, 35, and Ryan Pettit, 37, were engaged, they knew that if they were to get married, they’d do it at the Beatrice Inn. “Early on when we were dating, the Beatrice had just opened, and Ryan went back to go to the bathroom,” Annebet recalls. “He came back and was like, ‘If we ever get married … You have to see that back room.’” By the time Ryan, a teacher and high-school basketball coach, proposed, the couple shared an apartment across the street from the restaurant. Annebet, artistic director of the Eighth, planned the wedding herself with a friend; her business partners offered their U.N. Plaza apartment for the ceremony, after which 45 guests headed downtown for burgers at the Beatrice. The night before, they held a welcome dinner at Tortilla Flats, another local favorite. Recalls Annebet: “We gave our guests a really nice version of what we do normally.”

“ I wanted to wear mink-fur Fendi shoes, but Jason Cauchi, my business partner, thought I would look back and wish I had been more classic. He found these Louboutins and insisted they were the perfect shoe for my dress. He was right.”

“The sign was made by Lite Brite Neon. I literally gave them a sketch I did on a napkin, and it looks identical.”
