Every Friday at the Cut, we’re highlighting one great purchase for which it’s absolutely worth eating ramen noodles for the rest of eternity. If you’re looking for cheap thrills instead, check back every Monday for a fun pick-me-up that will still leave you enough cash for dinner.
Nothing beats a splurge that looks more expensive than it actually is. Dawn Levy’s Tabitha coat feels elevated and has celebrity cred (Kate Hudson has worn it practically everywhere), but at $400 it’s nice without doing too much damage to your bank account. In addition to its playful faux-fur exterior, it has all the trimmings you need in the event of foul weather: There’s a removable hood that attaches to a scarf so you can block the rain, snow, or whatever else might come your way. Wear the hood by day, and remove it for night when you’re wearing a slinky dress underneath.
