From a burlesque dancer to a celebrity DJ, Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara adds drama, creating instant volume and epic lashes in a blink. We’ve profiled a few daring women of unhindered creativity who are making art while being unapologetically themselves. Watch as they create the evening looks of their alter egos with Marc Jacobs Beauty, and keep coming back to check out all the videos in this sexy series.

JaKissa Taylor-Semple, better known as DJ Kiss, has spun at private parties for Hollywood’s biggest celebrities, headlined at some of the most exclusive clubs in the world, and added her sound to the hottest fashion, music, and charity events. We caught up with her between gigs to learn a bit more about this beauty with the golden ear. “I’ve had an intense love of music since I was a little girl, but I never really thought I could have a career in music because I couldn’t sing or play an instrument. A few years ago, I met my husband DJ M.O.S., and we bonded over our love of music. He was so impressed with how much I knew that he taught me the basics of deejaying. I picked it up really quickly and the rest is history!” She enjoys performing most for people who have knowledge and appreciation for music outside of the Hot 100 charts, and feels she’s at her best when she has the freedom to take the listener on a journey through eras and genres. “I was spinning at a private birthday party at Hammerstein Ballroom a few years ago opening for Earth, Wind & Fire. I had met Philip Bailey, the lead singer, a few months earlier at another gig. When he noticed me in the DJ booth on the side of the stage, he walked over and directed the band play along with my music! We ended up having a five-minute jam session in the middle of the party.” As a pre-show ritual, she goes through music a few hours before each gig then makes a playlist and jams to it while she’s getting dressed. “My style icons are all from the 70s and 80s. Women like Diahann Carroll, Phylicia Rashad, and Diana Ross. Women who were always impeccably dressed, beautiful, and STRONG!” As far as her beauty routine is concerned, “I’m pretty simple. I like a strong lip for day and a strong eye for night,” which she creates with Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara. “I love products that are long-wearing because I don’t have time to touch up my makeup during the night. There are always a lot of photographers around and people come to the booth to take selfies, so I have to always be camera ready!”

Rock DJ Kiss’ look: Marc Jacobs Style Eye Con No 7, The Night Owl; Magic Marc’er Precision Pen in Blacquer; Brow Wow Defining Longwear Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown; Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara; Le Marc Lip Crème Lipstick in Blow.
