Bouchra Jarrar is not a completely unsung talent, but she’s definitely underrated — a favorite of fashion critics, but not yet a household name. That could change if a report that Lanvin is eyeing her as its new designer turns out to be true. Jarrar, who has been designing her line since 2010, and showing couture since 2013, could be next in line to be the house’s womenswear designer, according to Women’s Wear Daily’s sources. (Per the paper, Lanvin declined to comment, while Jarrar could not be reached for comment.)
Jarrar is a veteran of Balenciaga and Lacroix, so she definitely has the chops. And the Elbaz-less Lanvin, which is currently under the direction of a design team, has gotten pretty lukewarm reviews, so Jarrar could be just the thing to reignite interest in the brand. Watch this space.
