A Beautiful Way to Relive Your Teenage Angst
Known for capturing dreamy portraits of teenage love and angst, the 22-year-old photographer Olivia Bee was something of a teenage wunderkind herself, rising from her high-school darkroom to shooting a Converse ad at the age of 15. The book Olivia Bee: Kids in Love, out this month from Aperture, showcases some of her earliest Polaroids and staged snapshots with friends. Featuring an interview with Tavi Gevinson, the collection traces adolescence as a two-part story, from female friendship to first-time experiences, like sex and drugs, while holding onto a certain nostalgia — Bee captures basketball courts and summer watermelon, pink-streaked hair, and Fourth of July sparklers.
