Amber Rayne, a 31-year-old performer who spent over a decade in the adult-entertainment industry, died in her sleep over the weekend, according to AVN. Deemed “kind, funny and genuine,” Rayne retired from the industry in 2015 to attend to the horse farm she owned.
Rayne made headlines last year when she joined the chorus of adult performers accusing then-beloved male porn star James Deen of sexual assault. In her account, Rayne said Deen violated her on set, punching her in the face and making her bleed so heavily she couldn’t finish the scene. Rayne said she decided to come forward after many of her colleagues began speaking up.
“I can’t blame it on immaturity anymore,” Rayne said of Deen. “I can’t blame it on being new to the industry and being some young kid. No, you know better.”
Though authorities are waiting on the results of an autopsy and toxicology report, L.A.’s assistant chief coroner Ed Winter told the Daily Mail that “a friend reported that she had died from a ‘possible overdose.’”
Friends and colleagues have taken to Twitter to express their grief over Rayne’s passing.
