Amal Clooney Doesn’t Like Donald Trump Either

Human-rights lawyer and relationship settler Amal Clooney was on the BBC on Monday night for an interview about representing jailed Azerbaijani reporter Khadija Ismayilova.

Clooney was also asked to share her thoughts on the U.S. election, which she called “very critical, perhaps more than in many other elections that have happened for a very long time.”

She went on:

I mean, when you listen to what the leading candidate on the Republican side has been saying about building walls, about excluding Mexicans, and saying there has to be a complete shutdown on all Muslims coming in.

If you actually look at what he specifically says in that now infamous speech about Muslims, he kept saying, “They only want jihad; they don’t believe in our way of life; they don’t respect our system.” And when he says “they” … And, you know, you watch the media coverage afterwards and people should’ve been saying, “Do you mean the 1.5 billion people around the world who fit that description? Do you mean the people who are U.S. citizens, who are members of your military, the vast majority of whom are not extremist or violent in any way?”

And yet, Clooney (who, reminder, is married to a #HillaryMan) sees a light at the end of this spray-tanned tunnel.

“If, at the end of all of this, he gets beaten by the person who becomes the first female president of the United States, then I think that would send a very positive message from the electorate back to him as to what they really think about that point of view,” she concluded.
