After his departure from Versus was announced this morning, it was only a matter of time before long-rumored front-runner Anthony Vaccarello was ushered in as Hedi Slimane’s replacement at the house of Yves Saint Laurent. In this case, it was only a few hours. Per a press release from parent company Kering, Vaccarello’s appointment as creative director is effective immediately, and he will show his first collection for the brand this coming October.
Said Kering CEO François-Henri Pinault in the statement, “Anthony Vaccarello’s unique style will greatly express the maison’s creative signature and fashion authority, building on the brand’s solid foundations, and further developing it to realise its full potential.”
Vaccarello skirted any mention of his predecessor, saying only, “Mr Saint Laurent is a legendary figure for his creativity, style and audacity. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the history of this extraordinary house.” He has a tough act to follow, that’s for sure.
